Self Care and Medications

In most cases, health care providers will suggest a plan of care that has proven effective for the majority of people with chronic back pain. The provider will discuss your expected course of recovery and recommend a treatment plan that you’ll do yourself.

Your provider may also suggest:
  • staying active
  • learning about the care and prevention of back pain
Some of the medications recommended to treat chronic low back pain include:
  • NSAIDS, which are non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen and naprosyn
  • Prescription pain relievers
  • Prescription anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medications
