Diagnosis

Diagnosing chronic low back pain starts with a focused medical history, followed by a thorough physical exam. The goal of these evaluations is to determine the duration of symptoms, the risk factors for potentially serious conditions, and the presence and severity of neurologic deficits.

In cases where a severe underlying cause is suspected or neurologic deficits are present, imaging tests may be conducted to determine or confirm a diagnosis.
